The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico State Police have now confirmed two people are now dead after deputies and U.S. Marshals tried to take a man into custody in Sun Valley.

An incident started when U.S. Marshals and San Juan County deputies came out to Copper Avenue to arrest Brandon Roe. Roe was wanted for three felony charges, including commercial burglary.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office says while they were waiting, Roe and a woman named Breanna Wilkerson drove up.

Deputies say Roe tried climbing into the driver’s seat and that’s when U.S. Marshals shot at the car, killing both of them.

24 hours later, neighbors still can’t believe this happened on their street.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office says it will continue to work with the U.S. Marshals Service and will release more information as the investigation continues.
