Think New Mexico is a results-oriented think tank. Its mission is to improve the lives of all New Mexicans. This is especially true for those who lack a strong voice in the political process. Think New Mexico fulfills this mission through education. They inform the public, the media, and policymakers about the serious challenges facing New Mexico. They also develop and advocate for enduring, effective, evidence-based solutions. Consistent with a nonpartisan approach, Think New Mexico’s board is composed of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. They are statesmen and stateswomen, who have no agenda other than to see New Mexico succeed.
Republican Party of New Mexico
The Republican Party of New Mexico is the official state affiliate with the national Republican Party. They state they are unified organization dedicated to preserving the integrity and value of government. RPNM’s mission is to help put government back into the hands of the people. It is also to defend our rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution. NMGOP states that they believe our God-given freedom is inseparable from our responsibility to serve our community, state, and nation. They value individual worth, responsibility, and freedom, and seek to protect the American Dream for all. They continue this tradition today. Their goals are to defend local ranchers and farmers from an overly-aggressive federal government. The New Mexico GOP also claims to stand up for local and statewide traditions. They emphasize a belief that our God-given freedoms shall not be infringed upon by any man or government agency. They claim to value our liberties, freedom and faiths.
Libertarian Party of New Mexico
The Libertarian Party of New Mexico was founded on June 27, 1972. The party held its first convention on July 22, 1972. The state party of New Mexico is not affiliated with the national party. The Libertarian Party of New Mexico ended its association with the Libertarian National Committee. It asserted its identity as an independent organization. This was stated in a letter sent to National Committee members in 2022. It affiliated with the Association of Liberty State Parties in 2022 after the split.
For more than 40 years, Cato has led the charge for liberty in our nation and around the world. The Cato Institute is an assiduously nonpartisan and independent public policy research organization that leans right. It also serves as a think tank that creates a presence for libertarian ideas in policy debates. The Institute actively promotes those ideas. It’s mission is to keep the principles, ideas, and moral case for liberty alive for future generations. We aim to move public policy in the direction of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace.
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) and the Center for Renewing America are think tanks dedicated to MAGA ideology.
One of the longest standing Conservative Think Tanks is the Heritage Foundation. Heritage’s mission is to formulate and promote public policies based on the principles of free enterprise. It focuses on limited government and individual freedom. The mission also emphasizes traditional American values and a strong national defense.
Some things to consider when researching conservative ideals. Most policy makers rely on think tanks to champion or help position political dialogue. As such they drive much of the conversation in politics.
Throughout history, the New Mexico and the U.S. government and political parties have maintained close ties with think tanks. There is a “revolving door” system. This refers to the movement of high-level officials from government to business. It also refers to the movement from business back to government. Democrats have traditionally relied on institutions like the Center for American Progress. They also depend on the Urban Institute and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities for policy and academic support. By contrast, Republicans have relied on conservative think tanks. These include the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute. The Cato Institute does not follow the MAGA line. Instead, they work as a historic bastion of conservative thought. Nonetheless, the rise of the MAGA movement has sidelined some long-standing conservative think tanks. The MAGA movement even dismisses some of them as liberal.
