For July 2025, White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) has announced the following upcoming roadblocks on US Highway 70: 

White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) frequently conducts road closures, primarily on U.S. Highways 70, 54, and 380, due to military testing.  Typical Roadblock Locations:

• Highway 70: At various points between White Sands National Park (WSNP) and San Augustin Pass.
• Highway 380: East of the Rio Grande and west of Carrizozo.
• Highway 54: South of Oro Grande, NM, and north of the NM/Texas state line. 

How to get the latest roadblock information:

• Call WSMR: You can call White Sands Missile Range for the latest updates on highway closures related to testing. Call (575) 678-1178for US Highway 70 closure information. There are also other numbers listed, including (575) 678-2221/2222.
• Check the WSMR Visitor Information website:The information is usually updated each weekday afternoon for the following day.
• Check the White Sands National Park Website:The park staff will also post updates on road and park closures due to military testing.
• Check the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) website:www.nmroads.com or call 511.
• Check the WSMR Facebook page: You can find current information regarding gate status. 

Important Notes:

• Dunes Drive, the main road within White Sands National Park, may also close during military tests for up to three hours.
• Always check for updates before you travel, as roadblocks can change due to various factors, such as weather or equipment issues.
• If you experience a medical emergency during a roadblock or gate closure, drive to the front of the roadblock or gate and inform the officer or guard on duty.
