ALAMOGORDO, NM — The Alamogordo Police Department has announced the arrest of a Mescalero man in connection with the alleged attempted kidnapping of two children earlier this month. 

According to the official police news release, APD began investigating the incident on May 11, 2026, after receiving a report of an alleged attempted kidnapping. The event reportedly occurred at a business in the 3100 block of North White Sands Boulevardin Alamogordo. 

As a result of the investigation, Virgil Chee Jr., 59, a resident of Mescalero, was arrested on May 13, 2026, by officers with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Police. He faces two counts of Attempt to Commit a Felony — Kidnapping

Chee was booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center, where he remains pending his initial court appearance. 

The Alamogordo Police Department has not released additional details about the incident, citing the ongoing nature of the case. No further information on the victims or specific circumstances has been made public at this time.

This arrest highlights the coordinated efforts between local law enforcement and federal partners, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, in addressing serious crimes affecting community safety in the Alamogordo area.
