Alamogordo Police responded to a chaotic scene at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Indian Wells today after a confrontation between the occupants of two vehicles, including a Dodge Charger, reportedly escalated into a weapons incident.

According to preliminary accounts, a dispute between the drivers of the two vehicles led one man to exit his car armed with a machete while another individual reportedly produced a firearm and discharged it into the air. Officers with the Alamogordo Police Department happened to be passing the area at the time and moved quickly to intervene.

Police were able to de-escalate the situation, and arrests were made at the scene. Details on the identities of those involved, the specific charges filed, and the sequence of events leading up to the confrontation have not yet been officially released.

No injuries have been confirmed at this time, though this remains unverified pending an official statement.
