Summary of Major Activities

Violent Crimes and Assaults

The week saw several cases involving assault and battery charges, including domestic violence incidents, aggravated assault cases involving minors, and aggravated stalking incidents resulting in arrests and incarceration at Otero County Detention Center (OCDC).

Drug and Firearms Offenses

Officers conducted an agency assist with the White Mountain Drug Taskforce, resulting in multiple arrests for controlled substance possession, drug paraphernalia possession, and firearm offenses including possession of firearms by felons.

Probation and Compliance Violations

Numerous arrests were made related to probation violations, failure to comply with conditions of probation, and failure to appear in court. Several individuals were incarcerated pending court proceedings.

Traffic Violations and DWI

Multiple driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrests were made throughout the week. Additional traffic violations included driving with a revoked license and unlawful use of license.

Property Crimes

Incidents included shoplifting, auto-burglary, criminal damage, and larceny cases. One incident involved an ongoing investigation at a retail location.

Public Safety Incidents

• A bomb threat was reported at White Sands Mall, with APD and AFD units responding

• An officer’s patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle with no reported injuries

• A hit-and-run crash involving city property occurred

Unattended Deaths

The department responded to five unattended death calls throughout the week, with causes ranging from natural causes to drug overdose.

Animal Control

Officers issued citations related to animals at large and violations of animal care regulations.
